I am writing to formally complain about our recent package holiday to the Steigenberger Alcazar in Egypt, departing on 19th August. We are loyal, returning TUI customers, but this experience fell completely short of the standards expected of a 5-star resort, especially given the package cost of over £9,000.The holiday did not match our booking specifications, and the first 24 hours caused our family severe distress and exhaustion. 1. Booking Errors and Inadequate Bedding. We booked two rooms: one for 2 adults and an 11-year-old child (specified to have two superior double rooms), and a second room for 2 adults. Upon arrival at Block 4, our room only slept 2 adults. Reception initially told us our 11-year-old daughter would have to share our bed.Just before midnight, a small child's cot style bed was delivered, which was physically too short for her. My partner had to sleep on this cot style bed for the night as our daughter had alreasy fallen asleep on the main bed waiting for a bed to be delivered to our room. The following day, our TUI rep requested a replacement. The hotel provided a single mattress that was completely dilapidated, with collapsed, battered springs. It was entirely unacceptable for a 5-star hotel. We had ro request for a replacement again. 2. Room SeparationDespite booking the rooms together under one family package, my son and his girlfriend were placed in Block 6, nowhere near us. This separation deeply impacted our family holiday dynamic from the outset. 3. Transfer Issues and On-Site Pressure. Our negative experience began immediately at the airport. The TUI transfer driver rudely demanded a tip before allowing us onto the bus and pressured us despite our explanations and apologies that we had no cash yet (per advice to use an ATM on arrival). Furthermore, during the stay, the tipping culture transitioned into aggressive begging from hotel acts, creating a high-pressure environment that ruined the holiday atmosphere. 4. Sickness and Loss of Enjoyment. The stress of the room situation, combined with a severe bout of diarrhoea that lasted for more than 4 days and required three separate trips to the chemist, meant a significant portion of my holiday was spent confined to the room. While the hotel guest services team was polite and later tried to check on us regularly, their offer to move us after 24 hours was impractical. We should not have had to pack up our lives and disrupt our holiday further to fix an error TUI made at the time of booking. Furthermore, staff repeatedly begged us not to complain out of fear for their jobs, which made us feel highly uncomfortable raising any further issues (such as my son's broken kettle, which was eventually resolved). As I was not prepared to be bullied for a simple request.

    “Superbes vacances !”
