Stunning accommodation. Certainly 5 star. Seaweed was problematic and should be highlighted more when booking, during seaweed season
Show moreThe accommodation was excellent. Lovely landscaping and very clean throughout with excellent food, drink, facilities and very friendly staff. I would highly recommend the hotel, with a few caveats. Negatives: Check-in process was very slow and we were put into a twin room for our first night, then had to change on the second night, then we had to recheck-in. A small inconvenience, but first impressions last. The hotel is isolated from Cancun, despite being only 20 minutes away. Taxis cost $80 each way. The hotel shop was extortionate (eg $18 for paracetamol which would cost 50p from Tesco and $18 for 8 tampons), but with local shops being $160 for a round trip, you're stuck. I felt that this was an unnecessary rip-off. There was a lot of seaweed on the beach, but they had tractors cleaning it up daily. This problem is natural and not unique to Royalton though.
Show moreInitially we were shown to the wrong room and we only realised this as we couldn’t log onto the wi-fi. We contacted reception to inform them and they didn’t really accept responsibility that it was their error even although we had the card with room no written in it. We were then put into another room but after a day in this room we asked to be moved as it was very noisy in this room as it over looked the pool and you could hear loud music in our room even when the doors were closed. We were down graded to a room over looking the mangrove and we were constantly told that we would not receive any money back due to the downgrade. They had offered to upgrade us to diamond but with a fee which we declined. As we were jet lagged I just wanted a quiet room therefore agreed to the downgrade. The room we were given was quiet but was at the end of the corridor and we were missed on numerous occasions to have our mini bar restocked. When we asked for snacks , ie crisps, nuts we were often told oh sorry I’ve none left !
