Overall excellent. Good location to catch buses. Unusual hotel system for signing for drinks at dinner. It was not explained when we arrived. First night, had bottle of wine ( allocated to room) and walked off at end. Second night , staff member came running after us to say we had to sign, to avoid any arguments later. Often had to queue at the desk on way out, because staff were busy - not the best use of staff time? System also not very accurate - had bottle of wine one night - not on bill , we had to correct it. Another night , staff member had to ask us what drinks we had. There must be a better way.

Not my first stay at this hotel but since last visit there has been no reduction whatsoever in the standards throughout this establishment. The Pestana group is right at the top of its game delivering impeccable service at all levels.

When problems arose at the hotel we found the speed of response of the staff very impressive. All personal at the Alvor Praia beach hotel were charming and obliging. Some areas of the bathroom needed some decoratiive maintenance, and the attention of a plumber The shower switch wasn’t working on arrival, , however that was swiftly fixed. The bath plug didn’t provide a seal but we didn’t complain as we’d had to call someone to fix the safe several times. The tiles, probably the originals, needed rregrouting, and the wall mirror frame was damaged. Bathtowels were cleaned but not white as they should have been. The housekeeping team were excellent though and supplemented the very meagre allowance of clothes hangers once we’d asked. The public areas of the hotel are very attractive and comfortable. We felt the pool umbrellas were not robust enough for the windy weather in Alvor, nor were they large enough to provide adequate shade for two sunbeds.. Unfortunately, we both found the mattresses our room (338) incredibly hard, and that actually disturbed our sleep. For this reason we feel we would not return to the Alvor Praia, nor could we recommend it to friends and family. This is a great shame, because on the whole this Pestana provides a very good holiday experience. The location is beautiful, and we appreciated the lift access to the beach, which is unspoilt and stunning.

The views from the Hotel are excellent, the staff go out of their way to help. The Hotel room was specious, but the decor is tired. I do not expect wallpaper peeling off the wall in the Barthroom of a 5 start hotel, or damage in the floor tiles of the bedroom.
