We recently stayed at the hotel Golden Yasmin Mehari in Hammamet Tunisia, this was very much below our expectations. This is a true and honest review of how we found things. To start off we must say that the staff were very friendly and polite. The hotel is advertised by TUI as a five star hotel which I have to disagree with completely. The reasons for this are as follows (no particular order) 1. Many things in the hotel were broken but were continued to be used (sun beds cracked, plates in the main restaurant with chips out of them, poolside umbrellas out of use, as broken, rails in the lift loose and wobbly, one lift sounded like it was going to break down as constantly juddered when in use). 2. The restaurant seating inside was plentiful, however seating outside was lovely until the table next to you start smoking. This outside dining area is big enough to split into smoking and nonsmoking areas so that the people that don’t smoke can have the same experience. 3 The pool area is very nice but again people are smoking around the poolside and just dropping their butts onto the ground causing the area to look dirty ( these were not cleaned up on a regular basis, if at all !!!!). This also wasn't helped by pool furniture not being cleaned (daily we had to ask for the tables to be cleaned) Sun beds are covered with a soft cushion which is comfortable however these cushion were dirty with some ripped. 4 I appreciate that Tunisia does have an excessive fly population but food in the restaurant and at the outside poolside bar needs to be covered, the food at the poolside bar can be out for up to 2/4 hours most of the time. 5. The male toilets at the poolside area are at times overflowing with urine and water all over the floors. (Not checked regularly enough) 6, The WiFi is stated to be available throughout the hotel and although good around the reception area, but it is intermittent at the poolside bar, however in the rooms this is non-existent which is very poor for a 5 star hotel. 6, The outside entertainment area including children’s entertainment also has cleanliness issues with the plastic tables needed cleaning down which is not done. Smoking again is an issue in this area which is extensive at times 7, The gym has a lot of broken equipment and some of this is dangerous (weight machine has been fixed with what looks like a shoe lace. 8. The room safe which is suppose to be secure was not fixed to any structure and could be picked up and removed from the room ???!!!!! 9. All inclusive local drinks were very limited to beer, wine, vodka, gin and whisky ( rum and brandy even local brands not available) very basic cocktails on offer. 10. The worst point for me was the foul smell which over took the bathroom and toilet areas in our hotel room making me feel very nauseous when I was in the room - we tried to get rid of this by spraying with air freshener but this only masked it - to be fair to the hotel they did send maintenance to check drains but they said there was no issues. I’m not too sure how often you inspect and reinspect the hotels you recommend but I think this is one to definitely be inspected by yourself’s. We were looking forwards to a five star experience as we don’t have them normally this was disappointing to say the least. I can’t imagine that this is how five star hotels are else where , this was a very poor experience for us. This is at best a 3 + star hotel as the overall condition of the hotel is poor and is in need of a lot of repairs.

Dirty soil around pool. Pool area never cleaned. Room upon checking in had no balcony- which was booked. Room then changed at 04.30am....only to get a call a 8am requesting we move again as that Room was booked!

“Badeurlaub”
Das Hotel war im großen und ganzen sehr schön. Klar, die Sauberkeit kann man jetzt nicht mit deutschem Standard vergleichen, aber das liegt auch sehr viel mit an den Gästen. Das Hotel scheint sehr beliebt bei Polen zu sein und die meisten von ihnen lassen ihren ********** halt leider überall liegen. Die Mitarbeiter vom Hotel waren sehr freundlich. Das WLAN auf den Zimmern könnte besser sein und vielleicht könnte man noch bissel mehr auf Nachhaltigkeit achten.
