    “Hotel Caramelo”

Bathroom floor looked like someone had smashed it with a hammer and then someone had filled in the cracks with concrete. There was no protection from noise. There was constant noise from plumbing, and anti social behaviour on corridors throughout the night. The anti social behaviour was reported to reception, but by then sleep had already been disturbed. The hotel is clearly aware there are noise issues as every room is provided with a set of ear plugs.

Firstly, I want to say this hotel isn’t all bad. The food was genuinely excellent and is probably the only reason I would rate it as highly as I have. However, there were far too many negatives for us to return. The hotel looks modern and stylish in the photos, but in reality it feels quite run down. The pool area especially needs attention, with loose decking boards and screws sticking out in places. The sun umbrellas also don’t move, so if you’re trying to get out of the sun, you’re pretty much out of luck. The hotel is predominantly aimed at German guests. As English visitors, we honestly felt invisible for most of the holiday. Apart from the cleaners, who weren’t particularly friendly themselves, hardly any staff spoke to us or even smiled. If you’re English and hoping for a more mixed atmosphere, I personally wouldn’t recommend this hotel or even this area. The rooms are very small with no proper wardrobe space. The balcony is tiny and enclosed, and the balcony door is incredibly difficult to open. The bathroom is also very small, and instead of a proper bathroom door there’s a sliding wooden panel that doesn’t close properly, meaning there’s very little privacy. The biggest issue by far was the noise. The walls are paper thin. We were woken up on five out of our seven nights by extremely loud guests between 2:00am and 4:30am. On the other two mornings, we were woken early by cleaners repeatedly banging beds against the walls while cleaning rooms. We complained 4 times during our stay, but nothing changed. The air conditioning was also very disappointing. Even on its lowest setting, our room never went below 22°C, which is simply not good enough in the middle of July. The food was by far the best part of the hotel. Breakfast offered a huge selection of fresh, high-quality food every morning. Lunch and dinner were equally impressive, with plenty of choice and everything we tried was delicious. The music around the pool wasn’t to our taste. A DJ plays house music from around 11am until 6 or 7pm every day, often repeating the same songs. On Fridays and Saturdays the hotel sells day passes, making the pool extremely busy, and evening beach parties take place until around 11pm. If you’re looking for a lively party hotel, you’ll probably enjoy it. If you’re looking for a relaxing holiday and a good night’s sleep, this definitely isn’t the place. A few useful things we only discovered because we asked: your wristband can be used to pay for drinks and purchases around the hotel as well as acting as your room key, which is really convenient. Pool towels are available for €10 each, but again, nobody told us this on arrival. The beach is only about a five-minute walk away and is absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, the surrounding area is also heavily geared towards German tourists. Throughout our entire week we didn’t hear any English music, and there were very few English-speaking visitors. Palma city is around a 15-20 minute taxi ride away. We paid around €32 each way, which felt quite expensive. Overall, if you’re looking for a lively party hotel where sleep isn’t a priority, this hotel may suit you. If you’re hoping for a relaxing holiday with friendly service and a good night’s sleep, I’d suggest looking elsewhere. We wish we had done some more research ourselves before coming to this area. We felt VERY let down by TUI.
