    This accommodation is usually better than our experience but was reduced due to referb. If you are gluten intolerant this is a very poor hotel as they have no idea how to cater for this. Signage for a dish showed both gluten free and contains gluten. This was the same for many dishes. There was absolutely no separation of gluten free products and the same serving spoons used for all the dishes. If you have a serious allergy I would not book this hotel the risk is too great. One of our party was ill for 5/10 days of the holiday and still recovering after 2;days at home. Some of the staff are helpful. Miguel was really helpful but there were a lot who gave the impression that we were an inconvenience. Apparently the experience on this holiday is not usual for this hotel, other holiday makers shared this with us. However this was our first visit and we will not be returning. The al a carte restaurants were a better experience however the menus sometimes showed contains or does not contain gluten and we were advised by the waiting team of what would be safe to eat. Rooms were hit and miss with cleaning and stocking of water, coffee and mini bar contents were not consistent.

    We love Bahia Principe Akumal. Unfortunately, since taken over by Hiatt, the quality of service and food has decreased compared to last time. The place is still beautiful and the staff is still amazing. But you can notice the cost savings from the hotel.
