We also found that staff interaction was mixed\\. We did not have much contact with the staff overall, and reception and the cleaners were lovely\\. However, on one occasion the approach felt quite aggressive\\. I walked into the restaurant without shoes just to get a coffee from the poolside area, and I was surrounded by four members of staff who were shouting at me in the middle of the food hall, telling me to put my shoes on\\. Similarly, when taking small items of food such as an apple or a sandwich out of the food hall, the response from staff felt overly strict and confrontational.

We have just returned from a fantastic family holiday to Alvor, Portugal, staying at the Alvor Baía Hotel, and overall we had a wonderful experience. The hotel itself was excellent. The swimming pool is the biggest hotel pool I have ever seen and was absolutely brilliant. Our children had an amazing time, and there was plenty of space for everyone to enjoy it without feeling overcrowded. The food was generally good, with the BBQ evenings being a real highlight. The quality and variety on those nights were excellent. However, the main buffet became a little frustrating because the menu was very similar from day to day. A bit more variety throughout the week would make a big difference and improve the overall dining experience. We also booked the TUI catamaran excursion to visit the caves, and it was one of the highlights of our holiday. It was extremely well organised and offered great value, with food, drinks and toilet facilities available on board. I would highly recommend this trip to families with children. Our airport transfers were smooth and well organised. I would especially like to mention our driver on the return journey to Faro Airport. Unfortunately, I did not catch his name, but he was outstanding. He was friendly, cheerful and incredibly knowledgeable about the local area. He really made the journey enjoyable, and I only wish he had been our driver when we first arrived. The only disappointing aspect of the holiday was that on a couple of occasions there was a strong smell of cannabis around the pool area and outside the front of the hotel. As this is marketed as a family hotel, it was not the atmosphere we expected, and it appeared to go unchallenged. We hope the hotel can take steps to ensure the public areas remain welcoming for all guests, especially families with young children. Despite those minor issues, we had a fantastic holiday. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves, the excursions were excellent and the overall TUI experience was very positive. We would happily book with TUI again and would certainly recommend this holiday to other families.
